The development of the Australian Curriculum is guided by the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians, adopted by the council of state and territory education ministers in December 2008.
The Australian Curriculum sets out the core knowledge, understanding, skills and general capabilities that the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) deems important for all Australian students. The Australian Curriculum describes what ACARA believes all young Australians should learn as they progress through schooling.
The Australian Curriculum will eventually be developed for all learning areas and subjects set out in the Melbourne Declaration: initially for English, mathematics, science and history; followed by geography, languages, the arts, economics, business, civics and citizenship, health and physical education, and information and communication technology and design and technology.
In 2012, Herrick Presbyterian Covenant School will be trialing English, Mathematics, History and Science and reporting to English and Mathematics. In 2013 we will be reporting to History and Science as well. During 2013 we will also begin to consider Geography, Languages and The Arts. As always our delivery of the curriculum will be firmly shaped by and based upon the truth of God's Word.
